The chair of construction and construction industry of the University of Wuppertal has been dealing with the potential of digitization and automation of the value chain of the construction and real estate industry within the framework of various research projects for more than 10 years. Initially, the focus was on the use of RFID technology. The establishment of the BIM Institute has expanded the field of research to include the investigation of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method and digitization over the entire life cycle of building structures. In addition to examining the topic from various perspectives within the framework of currently six parallel research projects (www.biminstitut.de), the BIM Laboratory was set up in January 2017 to pass on the outcomes to students and professionals in training and further education.
